The Disciples of Christ refute Richard Rives article Remember the Sabbath Day

Correction this post by rives is NOT part of his book “too long in the sun”. This post is his merely his opinion and nothing more…

Remember the Sabbath Day

Rives makes the usual mistakes here.

Where is the commandment of Christ in Matthew, Mark, Luke, or john that we Gentiles are to keep Saturday Sabbath?

Instead he uses the same old excuses the SDA church members have been using in their vain philosophy.

Genesis 2:2-3 “2And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”

“ 3And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.”

Yes all Christians can agree that God rested on the Seventh Day. But it wasn’t commanded of the Gentile church to keep Sabbath.

In fact in Exodus 20:1-17 God gave the commandments to whom? Israel the people led out of Egypt by Moses.

He says something strange here:

“The fourth commandment was established at the creation of the world and later reconfirmed to Moses in the wilderness by Jesus.”

Now that’s a strange idea… Jesus speaking to Moses and giving him the Ten Commandments? Is that idea even Biblically sound?

Despite all his quasi history and philosophy he still cant get over the fact that Jesus who is the reason for Christianity did not push his gentile followers to keep the old Saturday Sabbath. Probably because he fulfilled the very ten commandments Rives and other SDA members worry so much about.

See Matthew 5:18

I suspect Rives purposefully missed the following Scriptures which counter, even rebuke his article:

Acts 15:1-31

The disciples of Christ dared to alter Gods 10 commandments asking Gentile believers to…

Abstain from meat offered to idols

Abstain from blood

Abstain from fornication

And ya know.. It appears that Father God, Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit have okayed that burden for Gentile believers.

In Romans we find the following:

Romans 2:11-29

Romans 3:1-31

Romans 5:1-11

Romans 8:1-11

Romans 10:3-13

Romans 13:8-10

In Galatians we find the following:

Galatians 2:16

Galatians 2:21

Galatians 3:1-29

Galatians 5:1-18

Jesus even tells us that the most important Commandments of the 10:

Matthew 22:36-40

Mark 12:29-31

Luke 10:25-28

Now if Jesus and his disciples counter Rives teachings, writings online and in his books and what he teaches on his DVD he is following not Christ but someone else.

Rives like many in the Sabbath keeper community must decide who they will follow IF they consider themselves Christian. Will they follow Jesus or the false teachings their human teachers have taught them.
