My updated response to Richard Rives mass email ‘The Sabbath Sunday Shuffle’

Reposted: 02-20-2011

Wayyyy back in July 2010 Mr. Rives people sent the following mass email.

“Dear Friends and Fellow Servants,”

“Thursday, July 22, 2010 2:52 PM”

“In order to avoid the embarrassment of having to explain why Christians should disregard one of our Creators commandments, many theologians do what I call the Sabbath Sunday Shuffle. When questioned about Sabbath rest, they quickly change the subject from rest to Sunday worship – Stating: We worship on Sunday because…… “

“If you want to see a preacher dance, try it for yourself. You will find that most will do anything possible to keep from talking about Sabbath rest. “

“The fourth commandment says nothing about worship. It states that we and those under our charge must rest on the seventh day as a memorial of the creation – For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. He set it aside as a special holy day. Let us not forget that the LORD who created heaven and earth was Yeshua – Jesus Christ. “

“The New Testament informs us that it was Jesus who created all things – that He was in the world and the world was made by Him. It was Jesus who hallowed the seventh day at the time of creation yet today many of those professing Him as their Savior disregard the very sign by which the creator can be identified – the seventh day Sabbath. That is no coincidence. “

“We have an adversary that will do anything possible to prevent us from keeping our Creator’s commandments. Not only that, but just as in the Garden of Eden, knowing that sin is the transgression of the law and that the wages of sin is death, he will do anything possible – through confusion – to persuade mankind that the commandments of God can be legitimately questioned – that we can be as God and decide what is good and what is evil. “

“In the Book of Second Samuel we learn that when King David brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem he danced before the LORD with all his might. Those who do the Sabbath Sunday Shuffle dance with all their might – not in honor of our Creator – but in order to divert our attention from the fact that the fourth commandment, that was placed in the Ark of the Covenant, specifies rest on the seventh day. “

“Contending for the faith once delivered to the Saints: I’m Richard Rives with Just the Facts. “

Ok that is the text of the email in it’s entirety. Here is my updated response.

Mr. Rives continues to borrow the ideas of Ellen G White and other moral Theonomists who believe that the law of Moses is also meant for the Christian. The text of Exodus 20:1-14 (Tanakh) is completely for those in the Jewish community. Despite his claims he should really send a email to and ask if the Ten Commandments are for the Gentile. He would find out they are not for us.

After all outside of his philosophy can Mr. Rives and his profit-less actually show where Jesus COMMANDED Saturday Sabbath for Gentiles?

I didn’t think so.

Lets look briefly at Saturday Sabbath according to the Torah.

Exodus 20:8-11

Exodus 31:12-18

Now can ANYONE show me Israel and the Gentiles?

Hmmm than maybe this whole Sabbath VS Sunday issue is a stupid mistake. After all we are to put our FAITH IN JESUS and not a specific day. After all… where in Jesus teachings are we to keep the Ten Commandments and consider ourselves a neo-Israel? I can’t find it. In fact Jesus gave us the following as the most IMPORTANT COMMANDMENTS from Moses Laws.

Matthew 22:36-40

Mark 12:29-31

Luke 10:25-28

Perhaps Mr. Rives and his fellow Theonomists should follow Jesus and not their philosophies.

As Mr. Rives and his ilk continue their deceptions lets remember that JESUS IS THE CHRISTIANS SABBATH. And quite trying to place a particular day over another.
