False evidence of Sunday Law

Last month I got an email from an old friend of mine. He is a part time SDA (Seventh Day Adventist) Church goer. Yet he is absolutely brainwashed into believing in a ‘Sunday law’.

According to the writings of Ellen G White the Catholic church is to force ALL other religions to worship on Sunday. In the past I wrote up a amateur response to her writing but I have yet to post it.

For more information on that subject see:

The forward of the email says:

“Subject: Fw: SUNDAY LAW PUSH IN EUROPE”

“Date: Mon, 24 Nov 2008 17:18:22 -0800”

“The EU Must Keep Sunday, Says Catholic Church”

“November 18, 2008 | From theTrumpet.com”

“The Catholic Church wants Sunday observance enshrined in EU law. The European Parliament is debating changes to its Working Time Directive. The Vatican wants a clause in this law that would force every citizen in the European Union to rest on Sunday. ”

“A hideously socialist piece of legislation, the Working Time Directive currently makes it illegal for those working, with some exceptions, in the EU to work for more than 48 hours a week. Workers in the UK are currently allowed to opt out of its provisions. ”

“The bill is being revised. During the second reading, in October, seven Members of the European Parliament tabled an amendment saying that the minimum rest period “shall in principle include Sunday.” The Brussels-based Commission of the Bishops’ Conferences of the European Community (comece) agrees, recommending the directive should say “the minimal weekly rest must include Sunday.”

“The amendment stated, “The likelihood of sickness in companies that require staff to work on Sundays is greater than in companies that do not require staff to work on Sundays. The health of workers depends, among other factors, on their opportunities to reconcile work and family life, to establish and maintain social ties and to pursue their spiritual needs. Sunday, as the traditional weekly rest day, contributes to these objectives more than any other day of the week.”

“The amendment never went to vote, drawing criticism from Catholic bishops across Europe. Piotr Mazurkiewicz, secretary general of comece, was incensed. The protection of Sunday, he said, “is a cornerstone of the European social model and an issue of central importance for workers and their families.”

“The Working Time Directive will be discussed once more in December, and Europe’s Catholic bishops want this issue brought up. ”

“The pope has been a strong advocate of the revival of Sunday keeping. “Without Sunday [worship] we cannot live!” Pope Benedict xvi declared during a mass on September 9 last year, stating that it was a “necessity” for all people. ”

“The prospect of a European government so powerful that it could declare one specific day a day of rest is a frightening one. This would be an EU willing and able to enforce lifestyle changes on its subjects, whether they liked it or not. It would be a Europe that enforced a state religion—Catholicism. The enforcement of Sunday worship will be the mark of a powerful, Vatican-allied, European superpower. ”

My friends next email says:

“I’ve been meaning to write you back about the World Wide Church of God forward I sent you about the Popes push for Sunday keeping in Europe……. Good that you caught that is was for the WW Church of God, I saw that briefly when I read it, but thought it was legitimate because they were talking about the Sabbath, which they , al least part of them , I heard, keep……..  Armstrong isn’t someone I know much about , but the Sabbath issue is true that I know of….. The Popes push of the Sunday keeping goes along with the teachings of the bible that you have heard?  … It does to me that I know of, but… I haven’t spent much time researching it lately…”

It’s no secret that I’m skeptical of Adventist theology and doctrines. Mostly because of the belief by Adventists that brain damaged EG White was a prophetess.

But more importantly…

When Adventists make Mrs. Whites writings, words and supposed prophecies equal to Gods or assume she speaks for the Lord… is deceptive and questionable.

As for the ‘Sunday law’ doctrine that is believed… IF such a law was established in the World. 1.5 Billion muslims would call a world wide Jihad on the Pope. Not to mention all the Jews would fight for their Faith as well.

This bizarre myth was created by individuals in the SDA sect to make them afraid of Sunday worshippers and their interpretation of the Bible. This myth also makes Adventists afraid of the Catholics.

The general idea that Adventists teach is the we Sunday Worshipping Christians will be used by satan to enforce a massive purge of those who Keep Saturday Sabbath IE Jews, Adventists and other Christians who have their Church Worship on Saturday.

These fears perpetuated by their theology makes Christians such as myself look at their articles with a mixture of skepticism & humor.

If you’re an Adventist and consider Sunday keepers like me a threat… You’re looking at the wrong person. Remember satan is the REAL ENEMY of those who call themselves Christian. Not you’re fellow Christians…
