The problem of the Catholics using the term allah in Malaysia

In last years  news Catholics in Malaysia have won a court decision to use the term ‘allah’ in describing thier God.

I perceive that this court victory is going to be problematic for our Catholic friends in Malaysia. Theologically speaking allah and the God of Catholic Christianity are not the same.

Lets use some examples from a Catholic online encyclopedia:

God according to Roman Catholics:

The Blessed Trinity

The Nature and Attributes of God

http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06612a.htm

The Blessed Virgin Mary

And yet these Catholics in Malaysia want to use the term allah to describe their God?

Lets take a look at Islams allah:

ISLAMIC EXAMPLES:

“Al-Ikhlas”

“The declaration of Oneness of God”

“(The Purity of Faith)”

“1.        Say: He is Allah, the One and Only.”

“2.        Allah, the Eternal, Absolute.”

“3.        He begets not, nor is He begotten.”

“4.        And there is none comparable unto Him.”

“Surah Al-Ikhlas, the 112th chapter of the Holy Quran: This early Makkan chapter from the Holy Qur’an sums up in a few words the Unity of Godhead and is a reflection of the unique concept that Islam associates with God. Meaning: Keep Faith all Pure. There is Allah, the One and Only God, the Creator and Lord of the Worlds, to Only Him worship and submission is due. He is Eternal and Absolute, without beginning or end; Free of all needs. All depend on Him. Allah begts not; Nor was He begotten. Allah has no son nor father and Allah has no partners. There is none like Allah. His nature and qualities are unique.”

“Allah, the One Only:”

“1. “Proclaim: Allah is One. Allah is Eternal. He neither begets nor was begotten.” (112:1-4)”

“2. “Nothing is like unto Him.” (42:11)”

“3. “If there were therein Gods besides Allah, then verily both (the heavens and the earth) would have collapsed into disorder and chaos. Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, transcendent beyond all they ascribe unto Him.” (21:22)”

“4. “Sight can never reach Him; His sight reaches all things.” (6:103)”

“5. “And proclaim: Praise be to Allah, Who has not taken unto Himself a son, and Who has no partner in the Sovereignty, nor has He (need for) any protecting friend through dependence. (17:111)”

“6. “Allah! There is no God save Him.” (3:2, 2:255)”

“7. “Is there any God beside Allah? Nay, but they are folk who ascribe equals (unto Him)! (27:60). “

“8. “Is there any God beside Allah? Nay, but most of them know not.” (27:61)”

As we can see if the Catholic God is triune. God according to Catholics is a personal deity. Not a singular inpersonal deity like Islams allah.

Catholics mistakenly use Mary as a go between them and Jesus. They pray to her for all sorts of blessings and protections.

The Catholics of Malaysia are making a serious mistake. Muslims will not take kindly to the use of their god compared to the Catholic version. If Catholics want to spread their messages they should use their own theology and not try to borrow others like the syncretists.

UPDATE:

According to this news story:

“Malaysias top court Allah for Muslims only”

“AP 6-23-2014 By EILEEN NG”

http://news.yahoo.com/malaysias-top-court-allah-muslims-only-060945018.html

Malay Catholics are not supposed to use the term allah because it is the sole name of ‘god’ under Islamic terminology. However as I have already shown islams concept of god verses the Catholic terminology of God are quite different.
