My reply to Richard rives email ‘The Ark of the Covenant’

Over a week ago this July 2012 Richard Rives sent out the following email to his growing email ist of fan-atics. As usual I have included the entire text of the email and my reply below.

“The Ark of the Covenant by Richard Rives”

“What happened to the Ark of the Covenant? Where did it go?”

“Throughout the pages of the Old Testament we read about the Ark of the Covenant, the earthly throne of God and the container for the Covenant, the Ten Commandments that were given on Mt.Sinai. “

“The children of Israel carried it in the wilderness. They followed it across the Jordan River into the Promised Land and took it with them when they entered into battle. It was captured by the Philistines who, after being plagued everywhere they took it, decided that they really did not want it. They returned it to Israel, along with gifts, where it resided for some 300 years – first in tents, and finally in Solomon’s temple in Jerusalem.”

“In the year 586 B.C., the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar captured the city of Jerusalem. Even so, there is no indication that he got the Ark of the Covenant. It had mysteriously vanished.”

“Today, there are many theories about what happened to the Ark of the Covenant. Audiences are intrigued by popular movies regarding its whereabouts; and yet, at this point in time, there is no confirmation of its location.”

“What happened to the Ark of the Covenant?”

“I believe that there is an even more important question that needs to be answered: What happened to the Covenant? – the Ten Commandments that were placed in the Ark. The Ark of the Covenant was a container for the covenant that was spoken in the hearing of all the people at Mt. Sinai, not just Israelites but a mixed multitude that had left Egypt. “

“That Covenant, the Ten Commandments was written in stone and placed inside the Ark. Transgression of any one of those commandments constituted sin and the blood of sacrificial animals was placed on the Mercy Seat of the Ark of the Covenant as a means of atonement.”

“For thousands of years now, those Ten commandments have been recognized as the standard by which our Creator expects us to live and yet today they are being removed from our court houses – our public buildings and even from our churches.”

“Scripture informs us that sin is the transgression of the law defined by those commandments and yet today many Christian theologians would lead us to believe that they have been nailed to the cross and are no longer important. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

“What happened to the Ark of the Covenant? The search continues. What happened to the Covenant? Those Ten Commandments were written in stone and will stand fast for ever and for ever. In spite of all the attempts by rebellious man to hide it, if you are ready for an adventure you can easily find it for yourself amidst the plain words of scripture – The Book of Exodus – Chapter 20.”

“Earnestly contending for the faith once delivered to the saints; I’m Richard Rives with Just the Facts.”

Here is my response with more bullet points:

1 I frankly don’t care about the Ark of the covenant. Its existence and location and other temple treasures existence or locations are not something I am worried about.

2 rives by now knows that his theories are against the Holy Bible. After all the Disciples already dealt with this subject. But since he seems to prefer his so called morality by using the Ten Commandments perhaps he forgets or is ignoring the following Scriptures.

What Jesus thought of the Law of Moses.

Matthew 5:17-48

Matthew 22:36-40

What the Disciples taught about the Law of Moses:

Acts 15:1-31

Romans 8:1-6

Romans 10:4

Romans 13:8-10

Galatians 2:16-21

Galatians 3:10-14

Galatians 5:13-18

Ephesians 2:15

Hebrews 7:19

Hebrews 10:1-10

3 I am not surprised rives using Exodus 20. After all his mentality is typical of ‘reform’ Theonomists and Judaizers.

Again my question to rives is thusly. “God gave the Law of Moses to whom?” IF rives answers with “Christians” I already know that he is being controlled by a Judaizing spirit because in the Torah and Christian Bible tell us that “I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.” (KJV)

Which means that the Law of Moses was for Israel. Not the Christian church because we derive our morality form the teachings of Jesus and the Disciples.

IF rives will not read his Bible and see that truth then there is no doubt he is as wrong as Ellen G White, Muhammad, Joseph Smith, and all other false teachers.
