I recently noticed that both Richard Rives and Donna Kupp have used this word in recent posts or mass emails.

Here are their posts.

“Antinomians are the bad guys”

And of course Richard Rives recent email.

“I Never Knew You”

“Dear Friends and Fellow Servants,”

“The Book of First John states that, Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. In the Book of Hebrews we are told that if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. “

“In the actual Greek phrase translated – sin is the transgression of the law – we find the word anomia which means an illegality – something opposed to the law. The New Testament is full of references to the law. Even so, today we are being told that the law has been nailed to the cross and has no place in the church. “

“In the Book of Matthew, we find a forewarning issued directly by our savior. Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say unto me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? And in thy name have cast out devils? And in thy name have done many wonderful works? And then I will profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. “

“Now let’s take a look at the word iniquity – depart from me ye that work iniquity. It is the English translation of the Greek word anomia – the same word used in the Book of First John, which defines sin as the transgression of the law. Sin is anomia: sin is the transgression of the law. “

“Who are the many that Jesus will turn away? We are told that in His name they prophesy. In His name they cast out devils, and in His name they do many wonderful works. There’s only one group of people who do wonderful things in the name of Jesus – – People who call themselves Christians. “

“There is no way to avoid the fact that what Jesus said was that those who practice sin through the transgressing of His laws, even though they do wonderful things in His name, will be told that they must depart from Him. Not only must the transgressors depart from Him, but He will say that He never knew them. Now that’s something that everyone calling him Lord should carefully consider. “

“Contending for the faith once delivered to the Saints: I’m Richard Rives with Just the Facts. “

Are they correct with their definition? Lets find out.

“Anomia Definition:”

“  the condition of without law because ignorant of it because of violating it “

“contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness  “

Hmm so if the word means violating ANY Law whether it be Man’s or Gods then its obvious it is not merely the Ten Commandments. To use a youthful slang “EPIC FAIL” on both of them.

As I conclude this brief definiti0n I will bring up that the word Anomia is also a medical condition. However in the context of Biblical studies it is quite different when defined.
