Do Christians worship the Easter goddess?

Richard rives as usual sent out another attack email with the following ‘teaching’.

“The Easter Goddess by Richard Rives”

03-21-2013

“Venerable Bede was an Anglo-Saxon theologian who lived in the late seventh and early eighth century. He devoted himself to the study of scripture at a very young age, learning Greek, Hebrew and Latin. The writings of Bede provide importance information as to the traditions of Easter in the Anglo-Saxon church.”

” In 664 A.D. the Synod of Whitby was held in the kingdom of Northumbria. The principle discussion of the Synod was centered around the question as to the timing of the celebration of Easter. Should it be reckoned according to scripture? or by Roman tradition? ”

” The decision of the synod was in favor of Rome, which brought England more in line with the Roman church in Europe.”

” Bede attempted to defend, from a theological standpoint, the decision of the Synod to replace the Celtic reckoning with that of the Romans. He tells us that the heathen Anglo-Saxons called the fourth month Easter month, after their goddess Eostra. “

” Bede says that Easter was one of the most important spring festivals among pre-Christian Germanic people, and that it was dedicated to the goddess Ostara or Eostra whose name suggests east and thus dawn and morning light.”

” Bede records that the name of the festival was transferred to the celebration of Christ’s resurrection when Anglo-Saxon and German heathens converted to Christianity.”

” Scripture warns that the name of pagan gods are not even to be spoken. Theologians know that, yet each year in contemporary Christian churches around the world, the name of a pagan fertility goddess is proclaimed with honour.”

” For over 1500 years, Bibles, written in many different languages, referred to Passover and not Easter. That includes the first English Bible, hand written in 1385 by John Wycliffe.”

” Jesus, which the Bible describes as the Lamb which was slain, was crucified at the time of Passover a feast of the LORD far removed from the pagan festival of Easter.”

” Earnestly contending for the faith once delivered to the Saints: I’m Richard Rives with Just the Facts.”

Ladies & Gentlemen for the first time in his ‘teaching career’ rives is mostly correct about this ‘issue’ at least in regards  to the name of that goddess. But is wrong is other ways.

First lets begin with looking up research about eostre’.

Now… Here is where rives is wrong.

Issues:

1 Celebrations such as Easter, Christmas etc are not Theological issues but Church Culture. Obviously rives has never read the definition of Theology before so here… Let me help him & all of you out…

“Question: What is the definition of theology?”

2 ‘Holidays’ are a personal choice for a Christian and a Church family and it is neither a Doctrinal or Theological issue. Rives should have known better.

Question: “Should a Christian celebrate holidays?”

3 Most of us in Western Christianity donot know the facts behind some of our most beloved celebrations. Well here is a good place to start simply for ones own knowledge.

Conclusion:

Rives has made it clear what he practices. Theonomy & Judaizing. While for myself… I practice Church Traditions even if they came from old pagansim. I am doing so because that is my choice but with several MAJOR DIFFERENCES!

1 I BELIEVE IN FATHER, SON & HOLY SPIRIT.  I WORSHIP THEM ALONE! NOT SOME DEAD GODDESS!

2 I REJECT ALL FALSE GODS AND GODDESS FROM LONG DEAD PAGAN PRACTICES THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH CHURCH TRADITIONS!!

3 I REJECT ANY IDEAS OR PHILOSOPHIES MADE UP BY FLAWED MEN LIKE RICHARD RIVES, ELLEN G WHITE OR ANYONE ELSE THAT CLAIMS I AS 1 CHRISTIAN AM DOING ANYTHING WRONG BY NOT KEEPING THE LAW OF MOSES AS A THEONOMIC MORALITY OR BASING MY SALVATION ON THE TEN COMMANDMENTS!

Those who practice the annoying online theonomy & judaizing are welcome to keep the old Sabbaths & Jewish holidays. I perfer what we have as MODERN Christians.
