My response to rives email message “what can the righteous do?”

A few years ago rives sent out the following mass email message to those of us on his emailing lists.

“What Can the Righteous Do?”

“Friday, September 10, 2010 8:31 AM”

“Dear Friends and Fellow Servants,”

“If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? A very important question found in the eleventh Psalm that makes it clear that the faith once delivered to the saints must be defended. What is the basis of our faith – the foundation of what we believe? I believe that foundation can be found in the very first sentence of scripture upon which the entire Bible is based. Gen 1:1 In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. “

“Today that foundational truth is being challenged in an unprecedented manner. Theories of evolution limited only by the imaginations of mere men are eating away at the very foundations of our faith – the fact that “In the beginning God created” and if those foundational truths can be destroyed, what can the righteous do? “

“Today, while the expression of faith in Christ is restricted and in some cases even banned from our college campuses, the religion of evolution is warmly embraced. As a result, the wisdom of this world, which the scriptures say is nothing more than foolishness to God, is being received even by those who consider themselves to be Christians. Many have been persuaded that a literal six day creation is an impossibility and that rather than being created in the image of God, man started out looking like a monkey. “

“Many Christians have missed the sign – and the most popular Christian creationists have failed to point them to it. “

“That sign is the seventh day Sabbath. Why was the fourth commandment given? Why are we to rest on the seventh day? It is because in six days God created the heaven and the earth and because he rested on the seventh day and hallowed it. It is a memorial of the Creation – the very sign that points us right back to the very first verse of the Bible. “

“Let us remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy; for if the foundations be destroyed, what shall the righteous do. “

“Contending for the faith once delivered to the Saints: I’m Richard Rives with Just the Facts.”

As usual that’s the text of the message he sent out. Here is my response with the following bullet points.

1 We as Christians know that evolution as a theory is troublesome but it shouldn’t be destroying the foundation of Christianity! The foundation of Christianity is Jesus teachings, and his message. Not rives Theonomy, Judaizing, or ideology about creationism.

2 Unless I’m missing rives point Saturday Sabbath as mentioned in the Torah was neither a foundation of Christianity nor directed as a specific day of rest for those who are not Jewish by both Jesus and his Disciples.

3 Saturday Sabbath was directed towards  Israel  or Jews. Exodus 20:8-11, Exodus 31:12-18. It is not a foundation to Christianity unless your involved in the SDA ‘church’.

4 While God rested on the Seventh Day according to Genesis 2:1-3. It was not commanded to the human creation till Moses. This fact can be verified in the Jewish Torah as well.

No my friends rives is wrong yet again. And the Bible proves that so.
