Why Saturday Sabbath is not for Christians.

Why Saturday Sabbath is not for Christians.

Dec 2011

This is my attempt to explain why Christians donot need to keep the Saturday Sabbath as Jews do. It is not my intent on angering Christian Sabbath keepers or their allies I am simply telling the truth.

1 The original concept of Sabbath was given by God to ancient  Israel or the Jews. This is proven in the text of the Torah  (Tanakh) and the Christian Bible.  See Exodus 20:8-11, Exodus 31:12-18.

2 The Sabbath was a sign between God and Israel. See Exodus 31:17

3 The Sabbath was not merely part of the Ten Commandments it was part of the Theocratic law of Israel. To break the Sabbath meant death. Exodus 31:16, Numbers 15:32-36. IF Sabbath was important between God and  Israel and it has carried over to Christianity than of course we should be following Gods law as well. So far I have not heard of any American Sabbath groups killing their members for missing the Sabbath.

4 Next let’s view the New Testament. Jesus as our LORD did not give us specific COMMANDMENTS for keeping a specific day of rest or worship. Our Faith is to be in him and not a specific day. Matthew 12:1-8, Matthew 28:16-20.

5 While there are those in Sabbath groups who would proclaim a catch phrase like “Jesus is our example” or something along those lines of which they have made their philosophy. It is simply that. Mere philosophy and we are forwarned against following flawed and quasi Christian philosophies. Galatians 1:8-9, Colossians 2:8, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, 1 Timothy 1:3-4, Titus 1:10-16, Titus 3:9-11, 2nd John 1:4-10.

6 The Disciples of Christ were forced to meet as a council and debate whether or not the Law of Moses and the Sabbath was given to non Jews. This meeting is recorded in Acts 15:1-31. And the Disciples response to such false teachers… Acts 15:23-29.

7 Paul taught us in Romans 14:4-6 that we are to chose a specific day to rest and Worship God. SDA members and others who use the poisonous philosophy or doctrine of Theonomy and ‘Replacement’ Theology misuse Sabbath for their own ends.

This post is not meant to offend those who chose to keep Sabbath in Christianity. But to challenge their philosophies, doctrines and Theology. After all I’m just using similar “eisegesis” arguments just like them.

STOP judging fellow Christians on days of worship and STOP teaching falsehoods that Sabbath can save your souls.

We as Christians donot need to keep Sabbath. We can chose it as a day of worship and rest. Or we can chose Sunday.
