I’m not the only skeptic of richard rives…

WND (World Net Daily) awhile ago added richard rives as a commentor. Not the best decision… But since I have no say in what they preach, teach or publish… they alone are responsible for allowing a heretic to preach to the unwary..

Fellow Christians have also watched his videos and started to wonder about what he is preaching or teaching and why they can open their Bibles and find as I did that he is wrong. Here is just a few of the ’emails to the editor’ I have collected from WND that are questioning rives teaching / preaching…

“Read Galatians!”

Published: 01/18/2012 at 10:27 PM

“Richard Rives is a very confused man. He is placing Christians under the law by what they eat, keeping the Sabbath, sin at the cross, etc.”

“Jesus Christ alone fulfilled the law for all men. Faith in Christ is the victory over sin and death. Rives is doing a disservice to the cross of Christ by placing believers back under the law. I believe he needs to study Galatians and read Romans 10:1-5. The law was not given to keep but to be our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. No person can keep the law because we are all sinners.”

“Maybe I misheard Mr. Rives, but it appears his teaching is not biblical.”

“Mike Croft”

“Cheapening Calvary”

Published: 09/06/2012 at 8:02 PM

“I was intrigued by the message from Richard Rives. I looked up some of his doctrine and come to find out he is a universalist (all will be given a second chance after death) – very troubling. Hebrews says it is appointed unto man once to die then judgment, only one trip from the cradle to the grave. Rives’ theology cheapens the sacrifice made at Calvary by the Lord Jesus Christ. Bluntly, his views are heretical.”

“Give me Jesus over Rives”

“I listened to Richard Rives’ video talking about how grace doesn’t cover all sins and violations of God’s Holy Law.”

” Why do you give a man a voice to repudiate the clear words of Jesus and the New Testament?”

“All sins and blasphemies shall be forgiven the sons of men.” “Pray … forgive us … AS we forgive our debtors.” According to Rives, if we forgive those who repeatedly and continuously sin against us, we’re wasting our breath obeying Jesus’ recommendation in prayer because He lied and isn’t going to keep His Word.”

“If Richard Rives is telling the truth, then Jesus is a liar.”

“I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I’ve committed against that day … and it’s not Richard Rives I’ve believed.”

“You might claim that what he was trying to say is that people shouldn’t presume on the grace of God.”

“Then why didn’t he say it? Who had a gun to his head forcing him to say other than what he meant?”

“Hebrews 10:26-30 addresses the issue of those who “keep on sinning,” and it does it effectively by saying that God will judge the sinning believer and that it’s a terrifying thing. It doesn’t say what Rives said. Did someone take Rives’ Bible from him so he couldn’t check the Scripture for accuracy?”

“Not “sinning willfully” is a good message, and a man who knows both the grace of God and the Word of God can effectively preach on such a topic, but Rives can’t and didn’t even try. He approached it with the ignorance, presumption, carnal reasoning, unbelief and legalism that is so common from those who get their doctrine from sources other than God.”

“You need better contributors than those who lie about the Word of God under the guise of supporting it.”

“You need to print an apology, a retraction and a correction, rightly representing the Word of God, the certainty of which is greater than heaven and earth.”

“This is a very serious matter. His message wasn’t consistent with the New Testament nor the New Covenant.”

“Gary Sellars”

“Rives’ nonsense”

“I hope you will soon drop the Richard Rives videos, at least within the “news” type of posting format. At best, he should be an advertisement.”

“The man’s theology is contradictory to traditional Christianity, which may be fine, but his points are confusing to young Christians at best. He elevates the most secondary of issues, already dividing Christendom, to essential beliefs, which will only drive Christians and conservatives further apart. He appears to be trying to form a cult, no less illogical and unbiblical than Jehovah’s Witnesses or Mormons, and WND is giving him the voice he wants.”

“I’m sure much of your readership is conservative Christians, so posts like his are nothing but an irritation to those with any theological grounding at all. Further, the very idea that you post his rhetoric, appearing as news, makes it appear as if you endorse his nonsensical diatribe.”

“I appreciate the content of WND, but the visit is hardly worth the effort of having to filter out this man’s confusion anymore. I only hesitate to recommend your site to anyone because of my fear of someone stumbling across the myopic nonsense of Richard Rives.”

“I hope you will reconsider the format in which you post his lectures, if any post at all.”

“Mark B.”

“Bring down the walls”

“I recommend you consider removing Richard Rives as a contributor to WND.”

“He is on the edge of the edge of conservative Christianity. It’s sort of like mixed martial arts in the world of sports … dramatic, maybe exciting to some, but not a true sport in the traditional sense. The average sports fan will not walk into an MMA arena to watch a fight.”

“His writings and videos merely serve to stir up arguments about the law among believers and little else. The apostle Paul clearly warns against such things. Such “inside” debates place walls where they should not be and are more appropriate for seminary hallways, not the marketplace.”

“More importantly, WND has the potential of reaching millions who may be seeking truth, whether it’s in the political or cultural realms – or spiritual realm, which includes the first two.”

“WND has great opportunity to be an ambassador for truth, and I hope you will consider this request.”

“Bob Schissler”

As more years go by… there will be more ‘letters to the editor’ questioning not only rives teaching but why ANY Conservative website or publication would allow themselves to be swindled and cheapened by a juadizer and false teacher like rives or others like him. As time allows I will add more ’emails to the editors’ of WND that criticize rives or others who hold his doctrinal, theological or philosphy views.

It is NOT my intent to create any legal troubles or copyright infringment between my blog or WND I simply want to aire the doubts, criticisms, skepticism of fellow Christians (OR Conservatives) as they PUBLICALLY express their views on that website.
